Domingo Nardulli (b. 1983, Acquaviva delle Fonti, Italy) is an Italian photographer and art director who currently lives and works in Milan. A graduate of IULM University in Photography, Communication and Public Relations, his practice explores everyday life as a space of traces, presences and absences, in which the image becomes a threshold between experience and memory. His recent exhibitions and projects include: Peace Please, Liquida Photofestival, Moncalieri, 2026; Caro Diario, a Paratissima Special Project, Moncalieri, 2025; the inclusion of the project Spazio Libero in the volume L’Italia è un desiderio, 2023; and REFOCUS, Triennale Milano, 2020.

Allineamenti silenziosi originated from a solo journey to the North Cape, a place that represents a geographical boundary within Europe but which, in Domingo Nardulli’s work, becomes a space of inner passage. The diptych brings together two apparently distant images: on one side, the road leading to the continent’s final frontier, where the Nordkapp sign marks a destination now close at hand; on the other, an unexpected encounter with a sheep, stroked along the way, against a mountainous landscape that conveys the full measure of silence.

Rather than constructing a linear narrative, these two photographs establish a system of correspondences. The first image is dominated by the tension of moving forwards: the tarmac, windscreen, rear-view mirror and satnav place the photographer’s body within a prescribed direction, where advancing also means leaving something behind. The second image interrupts this movement through a simple gesture. Contact with the animal suspends the logic of destination and restores the encounter to the centre, transforming distance into closeness.

Nardulli works at the subtle boundary between document and metaphor. The journey is not presented as a feat or heroic undertaking, but as a process of gradual subtraction: fewer people, less noise and fewer points of reference, until the essential emerges in the form of an unexpected alignment between body, landscape and memory. Photography thus becomes the place where the external world is reflected within, without ever imposing meaning.

In Allineamenti silenziosi, the true point of arrival is not the North Cape itself, but the possibility of recognising that every passage changes how we relate to the world. It is in the interval between reaching a destination and an unexpected caress that the journey finds its deepest meaning: not as the conquest of a place, but as an openness to being transformed by whatever chooses to meet us along the way.
