Elia Brignoli (b. 1996, Bergamo, Italy) is an Italian visual artist who lives and works in Bergamo. He obtained his first-level diploma from the Libera Accademia di Belle Arti (LABA) in Brescia and his second-level academic diploma from the Brera Academy of Fine Arts. His recent solo and group exhibitions include Sotto una luce fossile, Polo Culturale Le Clarisse, Grosseto, 2026, curated by Nicola Ricciardi; Ascolta come mi batte forte il tuo cuore, Spazio Gallucci, Modena, 2026; and Diritti e rovesci, A Pick Gallery, Turin, 2025.

His practice spans photography and installation, exploring the realms of memory, absence and emotion. Through found images, reclaimed materials and narrative fragments, Brignoli gives form to what remains at the margins of the visible. His works transform the archive into a poetic space where memories, silences and forgotten traces resurface, inviting viewers to confront that which cannot be recounted directly.

In Eco, Brignoli addresses the subject of workplace fatalities through a process of subtraction. The project originated from the personal archive of his father, a surveyor specialising in construction-site safety, who has collected newspaper reports from the province of Bergamo concerning fatal workplace accidents since the early 2000s. While examining this material, the artist identified a recurring pattern: the repetition of images and the gradual transformation of how tragedy is represented.

Following a year of selection and reworking, Brignoli removed every human presence from the photographs, leaving only the landscape behind. Construction sites, mountains, farmhouses and industrial interiors: ordinary places that become silent witnesses to an irreparable absence. Deprived of the event itself, the image does not diminish the violence of the loss but transfers it to the surrounding space, transforming the landscape into an emotional archive in which the trauma continues to resonate.

Alongside the framed works, a long plotter print brings together the entire body of selected images. The continuous print evokes the unbroken flow of information, but above all the impossibility of considering this story complete: the archive remains open because workplace deaths continue to be added to its record.

The title Eco reflects the very nature of the project: an echo is what remains after the voice has fallen silent, a presence that travels through time without ever entirely fading away. Within this gap between document and memory, between archival detachment and emotional engagement, Brignoli restores dignity to stories often reduced to news reports, transforming the landscape into a place of collective responsibility and shared remembrance.
