ReA! Art Fair

A call to action

Reactive, open, radically new, ReA! Art Fair challenges the art market with a new and disruptive approach to an independent fair dedicated to emerging art.

Organised by the team of the cultural association ReA Arte, founded by a group of young female cultural entrepreneurs, ReA! Art Fair aims to go beyond the traditional fair model, supporting - in an increasingly difficult market - transparent sales with adequate representation and fair value of works. By taking a stand alongside young artists and visual arts students, ReA! Art Fair create a dialogue between deserving new talent, collectors, the public and many municipal, national and international institutions, with the aim of continuing this dialogue after the event.

To underline the commitment to creating a dialogue with the city and local art industry players, the fair includes a public programme of conversations and lectures with experts from the art world who will address the most current themes and new market trends.

"The strength of REA!'s art fair is to push artists’ careers in ways they wouldn't find elsewhere. REA! aims to be innovative in comparison to the traditional art fair model."

First edition

The first edition of ReA! Art Fair, was held at the Fabbrica del Vapore (Milan) from 30 October to 1 November 2020. One hundred Italian and international emerging artists selected by a committee of curators exhibited their works and directly promoted their work. With its first edition, launched by a fundraising campaign on GoFundMe, ReA! Art Fair aimed to bring a new idea of a fair to the city of Milan, a fair that focuses not on galleries but on artists.

Organised by the team of the cultural association ReA Arte, founded by a group of young female cultural entrepreneurs, ReA! Art Fair aimed  -and still- to go beyond the traditional fair model, supporting transparent sales with adequate representation and fair value of works.

Through the interweaving of its six sections - photography, digital art, performance, painting, sculpture, installations - ReA! Art Fair offered a unique project, defined by curators such as Maria Myasnikova, Tuğana Perk, Laura Pieri, Paola Shiamtani and Pelin Zeytinci, which developed a unique interactive and sensory flow of interconnected artworks. There were also 4 artists invited to the fair: Myasnikova Maria, Rebor, Martini Matete, Jaffer Shahina.

Second edition

The second edition of Rea! Art Fair took place from 4 to 6 September 2021, at the Fabbrica del Vapore (Milan), and returned to propose an idea of a fair that focuses on the young and independent artists - not yet represented by galleries - to offer them a very first platform to meet with collectors, to get an introduction to the art market and gallery system. The event  was -and still is- ideated and directed by a team of twelve young female entrepreneurs and is supported by the Municipality of Milan and the Cariplo Foundation.

The fair presented the works of 100 Italian and international artists, selectedby a committee composed of emerging curators Maria Myasnikova, Milena Zanetti, Laura Pieri, Paola Shiamtani and Pelin Zeytinci. The curatorial approach structured the event as a single, organic, exhibition that is an interactive and multimedia flow, divided into seven sections: painting, sculpture, photography, digital art, installation, performance and street art.

For 2020, ReA! awarded a total of 12 artists 3 prizes: “Artsted Art Prize” and “ReA! Art Prize”, and the 2021 Edition “Look Forward” special prize. The two awards were chaired by an external jury composed of Irene Cassina (gallerist, co-founder of Cassina Projects), Marco Enrico Giacomelli (deputy director of Artribune), Chiara Nuzzi (curator, ICA Milano) and Luca Zuccala (journalist, deputy director of Artslife , director of State Of Milan).
